1st Installment 2007 Pay 2008

June 4, 2008

PRESS RELEASE

Darlene Likens, Madison County Treasurer, announces that because Madison County has not received the tax rates from the State for the 2007 pay 2008 property taxes, we are mailing a Provisional Bill.  This statement will be based on 100% of the 2006 pay 2007 property taxes, minus any additional state tax relief. The taxpayer will basically be charged for no more than of last year's tax plus any special assessments and any delinquent taxes and penalties.

The due date is July 10th, 2008. A 5% penalty is charged after the due date if paid within 30 days after the due date, and there are no delinquent taxes on that parcel. If the tax is not paid on or before the 30 days (August 10th)  the penalty will be 10%.

The Provisional Bill applies only to real estate taxes. Once the county receives the actual tax rates for 2007 pay 2008, we will send a Reconciliation Bill for any balance due after the provisional payments have been applied.

Personal Property and Mobile Home statements will also be mailed at a later date once we receive the 2007 pay 2008 tax rates.
